Garick Donates to Kent State University Business School

05/15/07

(CLEVELAND, OH)  Garick, a nationwide distributor and processor of sustainable natural resource products, dedicated its time and money in supporting local Kent State University's College of Business Administration this Spring Semester.  Garick worked with both Graduate and Undergraduate business students on marketing projects.  In appreciation of the Marketing Department's and students' hard work, Garick contributed $7,500.  The donated money will go towards tuition reimbursement as well as support initiatives within the department.

The Undergraduate students worked as a team and did extensive market research on Garick's green waste target market.  All four of Garick's manufacturing facilities accept green waste (tree clippings, leaves, grass, and other organic materials) and compost it into organic soils and mulches.  The students presented their findings to Garick and classmates on April 25th.  The Graduate students evaluated Garick's National Branded Products Distribution Program.  The strategic plan they worked on consisted of the 4 P's of Marketing - Price, Promotion, Product, and Place.  Additionally, the team measured ROI, sales increases, and market penetration.  Their final presentation was on April 27th in Columbus, Ohio.  With this Garick marketing project, the MBA team placed 1st in the case study and 3rd overall in the Ohio Graduate Business Student Competition, a program that offers graduate business students an opportunity to work with practical business problems.

Dr. Richard Kolbe, Chair of the Department of Marketing at KSU, said "The experience of working with a real firm is invaluable for our students.  Garick can be sure that their monies will be used to further and enhance the educational experience of KSU students in meaningful ways."

Additionally, Julie Messing, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation at KSU said, "Garick has been instrumental in providing great experiential learning opportunities for the students in the entrepreneurship program at Kent State University. This practical, hands-on experience is a critical element in the education process and we appreciate Garick's continued involvement and support."

Gary P. Trinetti, President and CEO of Garick, and Patrick W. Mahoney, Executive Vice President and COO of Garick, are both graduates of Kent State University and Garick has been involved with Kent State's Marketing program for a number of years.  As well, Mr. Trinetti has been a guest speaker numerous times for the College's Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation.
